The Fender DG-7 was a a basic student guitar, entry level acoustic.
Yours was made in 1999.
It originally retailed for $229, and is worth $115 in really good condition.

Most are worth around $60 or less.

I am moving this posting to the 'Acoustic Guitar Values' forum.

JamesM,

Your DG-7 was made in Indonesia in 1999, at the Yako factory there.

It's a large dreadnaught style guitar, with a spruce top, meranti sides and back, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and chrome three-per-side tuners.

Yours was built in what is called the 'High Gloss Natural' finish.

The guitar originally retailed for $229, and is worth nearly $120 in really good condition.

Most are worth around $60 or less, in the usual worn, average condition.

I hope this helps!

What is the secret to decoding the serial numbers on these Indonesian Fender acoustics? I have one with the serial 90806216.

JSaul,

I always start with the Guitar Dater Project website, and if I come up dry there, and look all around the internet until I can come up with a reasonable answer to a serial number problem.

Indonesian serial numbers aren't exactly easy, since the protocols are all over the map, or so it seems.

The one thing we know is that the Indonesian Fender DG series was made mainly between 1996 and 1998, the 'heyday' of those production runs.
A smaller number were made in 1995, and the very last ones were pushed out of the factory in 1999.

I suspect that yours was made in 1999 also, given that your serial number starts with 9, and there are eight digits in the sequence, same as the original poster.

I hope this helps!

Definitely does, thank you for the detailed explanation of the rationale. Makes sense - sounds like it'll be a vintage guitar in 2 short years!

Billy,

By that serial number, all we can determine is that she was made in Korea, some time between 1990 and 1996.

Same value, construction, and details as before.

The serial number for mine is 009005-- then two other hard to see digits, what year was mine most likely made? The same guitar DG-7

Brianna:
The DG-7 were made from 1995 to 2000 and 2003 to 2005. Fenders serial number dating for their electrics is the first 2 digits, so keeping with that scheme your acoustic is most likely a 2000 model year.
