I`m looking for a cheapish but decent strat type guitar to experiment with and customise. I wonder if the Pacifica 112 will take a strat replacement pickguard without modification- it looks like it could be I haven`t been able to compare side by side- maybe someone has tried this? Any ideas?

Different pickguard. If you want 3 single coils on a 112 model, you can get a pickguard from a Yamaha EG 303 (which has the routing for 3 single coil pickups). The routing on a stock 112 pickguard is standard to accept aftermarket pickups. I don`t know why you would change them, the stock pickups do just fine. For my money the Yamaha Pacifica 112 model is hard to beat for any money - I have 5 of thme.
