How Major scales are formed Firstly, here is the Musical Alphabet. A B C D E F G A

1 Tone = 2 frets. 1/2 Tone (semi-tone) =1 fret. The formula for a Major scale is Tone-Tone-Semi-Tone- Tone- Tone- Tone- Semi-Tone

2 Examples: 1st. Key Of "C" no sharps or flats....lets see why, following the musical alphabet. The distance between the following notes

C 1 tone D 1 tone E 1/2 tone F 1 tone G 1 tone A 1 toneB 1/2toneC

Note the major formula (tone,tone,1/2tone,tone tone tone 1/2tone) is perfect in the key of "C" hence no sharps and no flats

Now lets see what makes the major scale of"D" I will use 1 for tone and 1/2 for 1/2 tone or semi-tone.That is period between notes

1 1/2 1 1/2 1
D E F G A B

1/2 1
B C D

So to make the major formula we have to sharpen the F and the C Thus notes in key of "D" are D E F# G A B C# starting at the key note "D" we now have

tone, tone, 1/2tone, tone tone tone 1/2 Between notes

The guitar best lends itself to # keys and very litle is written for guitar in b keys.

If this isn't clear please don't hesitate to tell me or ask any questions.

I have only been wrong once, I thought I was wrong but I was right ha ha.
