A very Bob Dylanesc Album called Shallow Grave By the Swedish Folk singer Kristian Matterson aka The Tallest Man on Earth.
Although it is very folksy and full of great acoustic guitar, and does have a very Dylany effect and sound (I am pretty sure was intentional) there is something quite different about Matterson. Maybe in the intention. Dylan’s music is really serious in a way, and soul felt, and The Tallest man on earth is completely humor full and amusing.
Those are words that would never be used in the same sentence as Dylan.
I am writing this with the tracks from his myspace page play in the background, and this is the first time I am hearing them.
I will, no doubt get the album, and give it closer attention.
The reason I found myself on his MySpace page in the first place is because I read about him on Can You See the Sunset, and Had to found out for myself.
Can You See the Sunset says
There is a subtle almost bluesy quality to many songs on Shallow Grave that actually hits my ears sounding like a cross between William Elliott Whitmore and The Felice Brothers (if you are looking for more contemporary comparisons). So yeah, what you’ve got here with Shallow Grave is a mesmerizing and timeless record that is easily one of the best albums of 2008.
Which is a little differnt than the impression that he left on my (I am talking about the bluesy part - it is bluesy in sound but not in spirit - in my opinion) But then again - I have only had one listen!
