i'm a big fan of the Strokes and they have a few songs on their new cd, Room On Fire, that the guitarist uses some effect on his guitar to make it sound like a synthesizer. "12:51" is a good example of a song with synthy sounding guitars.
my question is, does anybody know how to make your guitar sound like a synthesizer?
thanks for reading and if you know anything please respond. -dustin

Check out the thread I just started titled "What is the Ultimate Synth
Simulation for Guitar - No Hex Pickup?". This one could get deep. I've tried many units to get a synth sound...still looking for the holy grail. Here's a few to put on your list:
- Electro-Harmonix Microsynth
- Line 6 FM-4 Filter Modeler Pedal or Pro Rack unit
- Boss GT-3 Effect Floor unit, or later models (e.g. GT5 I hear rocks)
- Or if you if you want to put up with the BS of the hex picup, get a
Roland guitar synth GR whatever they're up to now, or one of the VG units which doesn't have the tracking problems
- Roland Wave Processor GK Effects Pedal (requires hex pickup as well)
My assessment is that there are a lot of one trick ponies out there.
I'm looking for a unit that has a diversitt of synth like sounds, no hex pickup, and no squireliness. I just ordered a demo CD from TC
Electronic on their Firworx unit, which supposedly has a great synth section..it better for $1800 bucks.

You can buy a piezo equiped guitar (no external hex pickup) and a Roland
GRxx synth for a lot less than $1800.
