I've been looking for a wiring diagram for a stratocaster modification that would allow me to use any or all of the three pickups in any combination. Ideally this would be a circuit that would:

a) replace the three existing pots (volume, tone, tone) with an independent volume control for each pickup, b) do away with the tone controls altogether (I never use the tone controls except in their full clockwise position anyway), c) do away with the standard 3 or 5 position switch in favor of push/pull switches built into the three volume pots OR simply have no switches at all and simply use each volume control to mix in each pickup.

Has anyone ever done this kind of wiring mod on a strat? If so, I'd love to hear how it worked out and would also love to see a wiring diagram of how you did it. Thanks!

As I see it all your needs can be met, but there are some distinctions that must be made first. It all boils down to parallel and series, with reprecussions for each. Basically, the idea would be to wire your pickups directly to the output jack, a simple procedure in itself. If you want the push pulls you can throw those in too, but while they would increase flexibility, they would require more time and thought put into the design, and would make the guitar more complicated which may not be necessary. The decisive factor is how you want to wire your pickups. Three pickups can be hardwired for any series and parallel combination. For example neck and middle parallel, in series with the bridge. Or all in series or parallel. Using three simple volume pots though, once it's set, it's set, unless you add more control switches, and that's where push pulls could come in handy. Beyond that, how you wire the pickups to the volume pots will have an effect on the circuit--whether series or parallel. This is where things get sufficiently complex to be "another story". I hope that helps. -Ben
