I need a "Oh, you play guitar, play me a song" song and decided that Brown
Eyed Girl would fit the bill for now. It's got easy chords and I can play along with it at normal speed and girls dig it...

But, I can make the chord changes on time and it sounds fine when I play along with the actual song, but when I play it solo it kinda sounds like
Knocking on Heavans Door... Well, maybe not exactly like that but I can't get a clear feel for how the strumming pattern should go. Can someone map it out for me?

I was a dj for 10 years...I HATE THAT SONG.

There's a bunch of songs like that for me. I've played them thousands of time and if I never hear them again it will be too soon.

Brown eyed girl is one of them. lol

The singer in my band wants to do Brown Eyed Girl.
I hate that song.
I must have heard it and played it a thousand times.

I agree with you except it's kinda slow and mellow and I want something with a little kick to it. I can play Hey Hey My My by Neil Young pretty well but again, it's not a real high charged spunky kinda song. It's pretty recognizable though, and that's another important element.

I have always played it like this ( per measure ): down, down/up, up, down/up

You'll have to view this in an equal-spaced font like Courier for it to make sense, but try this...

1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & x x x x

or, put another way...
1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
D U U D (down, up, up, down)

or.....
(ONE and two AND three AND FOUR and)

It mirrors the signature riff between verses. Not necessarily what they're doing on the record, but it works well for solo performance.
In the future everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.

I used the tab from this site: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/m/morrison_van/ brown_eyed_girl_tab.htm

It's pretty much G-C-G-D and C-D-G

Good luck!
