I have a Kalamazoo Model One (I believe that this circuit is identical to the Gibson GA5) that sounds absolutely fantastic (could use a recap and new tubes) and I want to build a duplicate of the amp to tinker with (I could tinker with my Model One but I like it exatly as it is). I could buy another one of these amps and source the trannies from it but I`d like to have an OT with 4, 8, and 16ohm taps.
This is a single ended class A amp producing ~5watts from a 6bq5/el84 and uses a 6x4 rectifier. I`d like to use a PT that will allow me to retain the tube rectifier.
Any tips on new traanies?

I don`t think the Kalamazoo is a circuit twin to any of the half dozen Gibson GA-5 amps. The only single 6BQ5/EL84 powered GA-5 was the 1965-66 "white panel", and it used a 6EU7 preamp tube, as opposed to the 12AX7 in the Kalamazoo.
However, they do share the concept of a bare bones 3 tube design.
Miles O`Neal is *the man* when it comes to Kalamazoo amps, and I`ll betcha he can steer you in the right direction on parts for a clone.
I guess I don't so much mind being old, as I mind being fat and old.

with Gibson, if it can exist, it does. There are a few specimens of GA-5 around with the same tube complement as the Kalaamzoo Model One. They seem to be original. Since the 6EU7 and 12AX7 are basically the same tube in a different bottle, it`s even less surprising (to me 8^).
For now, probably the best thing to do is to get a Delft OT. Simcha (formerly Stephen) Delft started making these for the P1 ( http://www.ax84.com/ - a great resource, esp. for ideas about where to go with a Model One base). They are dead on perfect for a Model One or Model Two.
In theory, Obsolete Electronics is Delft`s USA distributor, but you`ll need to email them - their page doesn`t list these at the moment ( http://www.obsoleteelectronics.com/ ). If you can`t find one there, I`m going to be getting a prototype soon of a similar OT by my favorite OT guy. At that point I could let you have the Delft I have, or you could wait for one of these. 8^) [I love the Delfts, but don`t want to depend on a single source half way round the world. Plus, I want to see what John comes up with!]
You might also check ebay and the AX84 forums to see if anyone has a Delft for sale. I got one at a good discount that way.
A Hammond would be OK. Not great, but a bit better than stock. Mercury Magnetics is quite good, but getting pricy (ilke the Delft and my custom OT ).
Finally, you can use an OT for an old, SE Fender Princeton. (Make sure it`s the SE version!)

Since the Hammonds were so inexpensive and come as close as I`ve yet found to the original`s specs I decided to order up a set and start there. I suspect as I play around with it I may get the itch to replace them. If they turn out sounding better than the original transformers I can`t help but be pleased. My Model One has never been serviced as far as I can tell. All the caps are original and it wouldn`t surprise me if the tubes are the originals as well. Even still it`s a blast to play!
Thanks everyone for the replies! Deaj
