I have a Fender Strat, and I heard that to get a better output, you could re-wire it so your volume knob isn't in the way. I don't usually use my volume knob, unless I just want to put my guitar down at band practice to get some water or something.
Anybody know if this is worth the touble?
Or how to go about doing it?

I don't think that you'll get a noticeable increase in volume, but it may brighten up a tiny bit.

I doubt it's worth it. Your signal is already going through a couple of pots (one for tone), a switch and two jacks before it gets to your amp.
Unless you hardwire everything, I can't believe you'd notice a difference.
I wonder if you could accomplish the same thing by leaving the guitar alone, and taking the volume pot on your amp out of the equation. (Just kidding, but you get the idea.)

I do not want a friend who smiles when I smile, who weeps when I weep, for my shadow in the pool can do better than that.

The jacks and the switch don't make a bit of difference. The tone pot and volume pot will. Any path to ground will degrade the signal, but it is probably more a loss of highs than loss of output.
