Quality of korean Guitars getting better

has anyone really noticed the quality of the guitars you ca now get coming from KoranS?

look at epiphones... they have increased a lot in finish and quality..playability..

i have tried a Cort PRS copy yesterday and was erally surprised at how well the guitar is built..and the price is CHEAP..

any experiences?

Well, hell, there's a big difference in attitude and desire between someone getting paid $20 per hour and someone getting paid $20 per month...

Point is, Korean wage rates have risen to the point where they can't afford to make cheap guitars anymore--they have to move toward the higher end stuff. That's why they've moved their low-end production to lower wage countries.

Who gives a rats ass? Cutting down a tree and building a quality instrument are two entirely different things. But since you play
Ovation and Dean (LOL!) I doubt you would know the difference.

You're kidding right? Quality is improving, but I wouldn't rank any of it among the best. Name one Korean acoustic guitar that is as good or better than the best American made acoustic. Or Canadian for that matter.

And a few years from now, perhaps Fender & Gibson will be hiring Korean consultants in an effort to raise their manufacturing quality!

The sooner the better, I say.

"Made in U.S.A." (at least for guitars) has come to mean you'll pay a lot more for little or no improvement in build quality, sometimes even inferior build quality. The manufacturers know it, that's why they put so much emphasis on quality of materials -- on craftsmanship they haven't a leg to stand on. Time was they had both sides of the equation happening...

30-40 years from now, some of the Epi models will be worth nearly as much as the equivalent Gibsons.
Just as now, people are realizing the quality of the Japanese Fenders from the '80's, so it will go with many Korean guitars.

I knew Frank Zappa was going to figure into all of this sooner or later...

Which is why Samick bought Kohler & Campbell and Knabe, both formerly
US-made. They've also been making a lot of Baldwin's line for about 20 years! You wouldn't mind buying one of them, would you?

Klaus Fenner. They're now control Germany's Bechstein too. Can't do much better than that!

Back when I started playing (early 70's), you owned Fender, Gibson, or garbage. Competition is a good thing. We can only hope that the execs at
Gibson and Fender know that today's players compare their goods to those at half (or less) the price. It will keep them honest.

Yep...I have a '99 Hyundai Elantra, and it's been an excellent car. My son will be in the 5th grade when the warranty runs out, and he was 4 weeks old when we bought it. Quality-wise, this car is every bit as good as a Toyota or Honda, almost every available option on those cars is stock on the Hyundai, and we only spent $12k!

In 30-40 years? With Epiphone Elite, may LAST YEAR (quality-wise, that is).

This is speculation. I haven't had ben able to locate an Epi Elite LP to demo.

I'm not sure about that, but I think that I read that Samick set up a piano manufacturing facility in China.

Some time ago a shop owner was bragging about his "excellent quality" overpriced Spector semi-hollow basses. A few days after that, I was scrolling down the street and suddenly I see the same bass, down to every detail except the letters at the headstock, in a store. It was a Samick, and needless to say it was also much cheaper.

What I meant is that the bass & treble bouts are connected unlike a 335 style which has a solid block running the the entire length of the body. The
AK block is only under the bridge / tailpiece - I haven't as yet investigated whether it's part of the tail block or not. Mine is a tobacco sunburst with an embarassingly flamey top. How's yours?
