While in the shower this morning, I had a sudden thought: I want a new effects unit! Why I had this thought in the shower, I do not know, but I digress.

Basically, I would be in everyone's deep debt if I could have a few opinions on the PodXT, the Boss GT-6, and any other effects/modeling units that you folks have used. Now, I'm only including modeling because
I don't mind the occasional virtual-amp or two while playing, but it will mainly be a nice, pretty, effects unit. Keeping this in mind, I am open to all suggestions, except those which state "...fucking idiot, you want to buy a modeler? Les Paul is rolling over in his grave." At that point, someone will turn around, smack you in the face, point out that Les Paul isn't dead yet, nor did he ever use any real variety of effects, and that you should know better. I specifically want a multi-effects unit, with or without a modeler, and no, that means I don't want to buy fifty fucking pedals and duct-tape them together to make a rotating multi-stomp-box.

With that in mind, I have to say that I am in dire need of some direct, not so subtle input. I don't have the money to go out and get all of these nice toys, so the one that seems to have the most direct, no- nonsense praise is the one that I will probably go after. I don't need a multi-effects box that has 4589 effects that I can string all together in a nice long line; I'll be stringing maybe a couple of od's, flange, and a comp together in a line for one song, then change it for another, like most sane effects users do. One with a good selection of sounds that just sound nice to the ear, one which allows me to string a handful of 'em together, and etcetera.

If you get what I mean, and have some input from one player to another, then rock on, thanks, perhaps I can give you some good advice one day.
Until then, though, you'll just have to deal with my thanking in advance, my tales of joy when I buy my glorious new toy, and how much I can't live without it.

Met K.

I recently bought my second Boss ME-33 on Ebay for $120. I liked the first one so much, apart from lack of midi implementation (read "backup all those hours of tweaking", that I got another literally just for backup.

I'm sure the GT-6 is terrific, but the six models on the ME-33 are more than enough for me, and the FX very satisfyingly written. The ME-33 came out just months before the GT-6 and they share a lot of the same engine specs. The
GT-6 seems to be an ME-33 with way more bells and whistles. Again, no doubt wonderful. Look to Ebay in either case.

If you´re looking for a good multieffect that has a great preamp with modeling amps, the GT-6 is the best choice. If you´re looking for a modeling amp with great effects, the Pod is a great choice. With another words, I do think the GT-6 is the most flexible unit if you want to hook it up with a tube amp, using only the effects. When using the GT-6 with an amp you can use the 4-cable method (mail me about it) to direct some effects before the pre-amp, such as compression, chorus, wha, and all those effects that sounds better that way. The rest of the effects like delay and reverb sound better in the effect loop and it´s possible to do that. With another words, you can split the GT-6 to run some effects before the pre-amp and others after the pre-amp.

Some say that the best modeling amps are made by Line-6, some prefer Boss or
Vox. It´s really a matter of taste. But as a multieffect with the most choices the Boss GT-6 should be the number one. That´s my opinion anyway.

And it´s flexible in the meaning that it has a built-in-floorboard.
