Hi All, just in case you're wondering what the theory says about it (and why- rationally - I prefer the sound of the series p/j combination, here's a nice article about it all: http://www.telling-amplification.co.uk/pickups_1.html
Now surely, someone can help me out here.
My IBZ has a P Quarter pounder pickup that I really like in the neck (where else...)
I'm looking for a good substitute for the sh1tty Jazz IBZ USA made by dimarzio piece of Pizza pie it currently has in the bridge. Based ONLY on my opinion of the quarter pounder, I'd get a bridge quarter pounder jazz.
BUT... so far I have never used the bridge pickup and the only justification
I can find is that series sound.
Now for the noise issues, I really don't think that there will be a problem as series wiring will double the noise and the output - similar s/n you see and the bass is quiet enough.
If wood considerations are important, it's a 5 piece bubunga/wenge neck, bolt on with a bubinga body (yeah, it looks dark and pretty).
Anybody got any advice on pickups to try? My local store is very helpful and will allow me to swap a few times until I'm happy with it but has a rather limited selection in stock. If I came along with a list, I'd probably be able to try out 2 or 3 pups and give the unused ones back.
I really don't want an active system. The fact is that the bass has one that
I really want to retire.

Dave for humbucking, you need to reverse both the magnet polarity and the coil to be in phase.
Not always possible unless the manufacturer makes it so.
Been to guitarnuts plenty though.
