I saw a few enthusiastic comments about the Peavey VTM-60 tube heads.

The Harm Central reviews of them are almost annoyingly positive, and even the guys who didn't give them good numbers, didn't really have anything all that bad to say about them.

No big complaints about broken amps either. Just minor stuff.

A couple of the interesting things about them are that they'r single channel heads (fine with me) and they have a series of dip switches in the center of the front panel that they call "Tone Modifications" switches, which do things like change the amount of gain, and alter the tone circuit. Stuff like that. I found a pdf manual on the VTMs.

So anyhow, they tend to sell pretty cheap, and I never see any complaints about them. On aga, I also never hear anyone admitting to owning one, or saying enthusiastic things about them, or insulting them either.

So I figured I should ask, are these things basically an unknown great bargain amp, or are they mostly unknown because they're junk? Do they have any dependability problems? Are the pots and tube sockets mounted on the chassis, or on a PCB?

Any kinds of warnings about these amps would be appreciated, because without being able to look inside one to see how they're made, the reviews make them look too good to be true. I can't dig up any online schematics of the things either, only a manual.

Just for anyone interested in what's going on with those dip switches, this is the contents of that pdf manual, converted into jpg images for easier viewing (& the pdf is 1.51mb), minus the cover page, and the warrantee page:

Because I'm sure that I didn't explain an amp that I've never seen very well.

mgoldenbaum,

Would you please repost the VTM-60 manual? It does not seem to available at Peavey any longer.

Thanks

Hank

Hank, welcome to the forum I am happy you joined us.

The Peavey site says it is down due to maintenance. Perhaps they will re-place the option to download the manual when they get back 'into the air'
