I want to replace a noisy volume pot on a recent Mexican Fender Precision bass.

Original value: 250 KOhm.

A: Do I need linear or log taper? - or something else?
B: Will there be any benefit in replacing it with a 500K pot?

I gave it a good soaking with Caig DeoxIt in case someone on the assembly line dripped Taco sauce into the control. Caig usually does the trick.
I even pulled off the pickguard and sprayed through the pot's opening.

Didn't help. It's a new guitar and the pot is clearly defective, but the part's so cheap it's not worth the hassle of trying to get it fixed under warranty.

250K log taper it is. Wouldn't want to mess with a precision instrument.

Thanks Georgio and Cyuberserf for the help.
