I was looking for info about a vintage Gibson EB-1 bass and fell onto this cool site. The first thread I saw was called "my first bass"... I can't find the thread so, here's my own two cents. Way back in the last century (1967!!), when I was 14, I saved enough money to buy a used bass and amp... the bass ($25) was a Japanese thing called Zim Gar (I think it means 'fat white devil' or something) and the amp ($50) was an Ampeg B-15. On one occasion when my band played a concert at school, a friend lent me his Gibson EBO and I vowed to one day own one.

Fast forward to today... my Ampeg (a tube amp with a 15" speaker) plays as beautifully as it did when I bought it 41 years ago! And a few years ago I found a used and worn 1969-1970 Gibson EBO... the body has its share of nicks and scratches... but it's the Rolls Royce of basses! I replaced the strings with flat-wound strings and its just a pleasure to play! Impeccable action, perfectly balanced, rich sound... the combination of my Gibson and my Ampeg... heaven on earth!
