Was wondering if anyone had any mods to offer on the old blue Boss CE2 chorus?...I know it is a good sounding basic unit, but I thought someone in here might have done some tricks to "expand" the sound of the unit. Thanks in advance for the help...

RANT!!!!!!! What a bunch of pooh w/ corn, this should appeal to 40-50something boomer lawyers that ride trophy harleys and buy wall hanger ten top Santana PRS. yah,Send me all your vintage pedals that are 20yrs old and I`ll make em sound not so vintage and swap out the variable potentiometers for sounds that go to "11". They`ll be quieter, faster and shinier!
I do give em props for finding yet another way to make a quick buck. wow...I`m still laughin...wooooo...... what a card! Kids go buy your own $14 De/soldering iron, silver solder, n` visit smallbear electronics and rape your own vintage pedals for free!
End of rant..... thanks,tv

of exceptional quality that appeals to many a working musician. Maybe you consider your soldering and design skills equal to his, but I know it would take a long damn time before I could match them. My time is better spent right now raising my kids and playing guitar. Keely`s prices are completely reasonable, and he stands behind his work. He is also a pleasure to deal with, and AFAIK has never posted an idiotic rant about someone he knows nothing about on usenet.

customers with respect. Try out any of his mods, (the Blues Driver mod, SD-1 mods, TS-9 mod, or the 3-way RAT), or his original products like the compressor and time machine boost, and you`ll immediately recognize the quality of his work. His mods especially are among the best value of any pedal i`ve seen... just over $100 and you`ll get an overdrive that matches $200 boutique pedals.
I never tried his Chorus, but I assure you that he has high standards for his work and would not arbitrarily add a new mod to his lineup unless it is fantastic.

TV does know something about Keeley, Tavo is still touchy about Keeley`s "invention" of the blue LED

Personally I couldn`t see wanting to INCREASE the rate of a CE-2. I think those things are lovely with the speed all the way down and the depth all the way up. Just my taste.

I love how the Keeley minions pop up when some makes a comment or three about his augmentations. I`ve heard Zvex`s boys will kill for him. Damn near televangelists these pedal guru types. Please do not confuse my "of the moment rant" with a Flame to disrespect somebody`s integrity. I never ever questioned his personal integrity, his quality of work, or the value of his service. (though I did have the Blue LED in my pedals back in 96-97` =) That wouldnt be fair, nor would I be in place to judge that.
My rant was simply to be a shake up to the fact that it is amazing how easily one can grease up his/her own pedals for LESS than $25 DYI. You dont need to pay somebody $100 over the value of your pedal to put in (2) output resistors (1) poly or silver mica cap (1) jrc4558 (dont forget the that cost the average guitar citizen $15 MAX. Bench fees are around $20-35 per hour and this job is a 20 min. dance. Not every mod job is that simple or cost effective though I still say Do it yourself. Geofex.com and many other sites lay this stuff out. Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime of hobby mods. SO if you can afford to let some one feed ya, do it baby, do it! btw..More playing time is available as well as quality time for the kiddies if you waste valuable time posting Keeley shout outs at alt.guitar.effects...he`s got enough saints at harmony central forums. finding a quick way to make a buck is a bit harsh. I really feel that he is passionate about his work. you`re saying, but if you were to look at the final product, you have to admit that $100 for a modded SD-1 or RAT or $130 for a modded BD-2 or TS-9 (price includes the pedal and the mod) is actually a very good deal, considering the quality and versatility of the pedals.
Sure, if you`re handy with a soldering iron and other tools, then you can see why doing it yourself is a lot more economical. But for the average musician, they are only concerned about price and quality, and i think you get a pretty good deal with Keeley`s stuff.

be de-mystified, as well as the actual difference the average player can expect to hear from some now mythical mods. But your post seemed decidedly derogatory towards both the person offering the service of modding pedals, and anyone so foolish as to desire their services. Do you change your own oil, rotate your own tires and change your own brake pads? These are all fairly simple tasks that can be accomplished with a few inexpensive tools, yet most people would choose to pay someone else to do them. Ever eat at restaurants? What fool would pay someone else to cook their food for them! kids are in school. More often than not, I am taking a break while practicing guitar. can you be one, right? peace

We all have a place in our hearts for loyalty towards those companys that give us quality and respect. There is the human emotion to defend that which is near and dear to us. My facetious nature could be a spark in somebody`s cinders that doesnt know me so....ya... it could be construed as a derogatory bit in part. I give you this hands down brotha. Though I gotta add my 2cents to all the conjecture stirred up here, because I am not a Flipant asshole simply for posting commentary to the cyber community I`ve belonged to for some 4/5-odd years. I`ve been in the business of selling and repairing guitars, amps and pedals for almost a decade. I try not to sell myself on the A.G.E forum because its simply my personal opportunity to have dialogue and community within the hobby itself.
Its all good. I too have a soft spot of loyalty to Analogman.com Mike P. because He is so helpful to this community and has designed some incredible pedals(oohh clone clone) and pops off great mods too. His website is a favorite. If anyone tried to

two myself so I understand!! infact..There is a sensitivity to who actually had the first Ross comp clone down pat.....er....okay..... I wont go there! sorry. so yah time to play music!! I`m gonna use my line 6 delay, 201 phasor and big muff for bass, at a showcase gig in nashville in a few weeks, gotta go practice peace, tV the wired turtle www.ikilledrock.com/wiredturtle

Kerry......I originally asked the question and altho I dont use effects (unless I am doing studio work, then they are via the engineer+mix) but I have an old C2 and was tinkering with it and the question was just a passing thought...I have, over the years, used many different chorus,etc...the most recent was a ChoralFlanger..good sounding but stilll overrated...anyhoo, I was just wondering what and if the folks in here knew any "shines" that could be added to an old standard...I thank those who replied and if I decide that my limited use justifies spending any money, I will do so...I once recorded some sessions (about 1971) with a big, wooden Leslie and a old red 50watt Marshall top...with the amp at 3/4 the sound on those old tapes is soul-stirring....I guess I have been trying to re-find that sound since then and really nothing else comes close...I could be wrong and if someone knows something that does, pleeeze be so kind as to post it. Thanks again for all the replies....

Are you trying to recreate the big leslie sound using a chorus as a vibrato? or are you just wanting to make a nice chorusing effect sound nicer? Your CE-2 has a trim pot on the inside an if you set your depth and speed to max you can hear an audible depth improvement simply by avancing the internal trimpot slightly. Its not gonna make the stars fall from the sky but its nice to be able to glean more wet signal from the CE-2. You can swap out the cheap caps for polycaps and get slightly warmer tones. If you would really like to hear some wonderful vibratone/psuedo fast leslie from a chorus pedal I`m all about the ibanez BC-9 bimode chorus and DOD phasor 201. I use the second output of the bc-9 pedal in mono as each output jack is 180 degrees out of phase from the other(for the stereo spread if you do that stuff). Nothing comes close to its analog sheen except for the new maxon vintage series big box chorus and the Analogman clone chorus(fatter and darker loveliness). The biggest stereo leslie throb I`ve heard from a pedal was my fulltone stereo dejavibe going through 2 half stacks 15 feet apart. that and the H&K rotosphere set up stereo has a slow leslie chew/swirl that is tooo sweet. my 2 cents, tv
