I've been learning for about 6 months but I am beginning to get a very sore knuckle on my left hand index finger at the first joint. Is this normal?
Should I just rest it for a while?

Any advice would be welcome.

Sorry... I'm already punishing myself with golf... just played 9 holes, lost
3 balls, & didn't even manage a single par.

It's an acoustic 6 steel string. I think it might be all the work I'm putting in on the B & E strings with an acute angle on the knuckle.

Are playing electric or acoustic? In any event keep your thumb straight up and the first joint centered on the back of the neck.

If this doesn't work, take up golf. Then you'll know about real anguish ;-}
