I'm in the process of resurrecting an old Hagstrom Swede that's been laying around in parts for the past ten years or so -- had to sell off all my GOOD guitars to pay property taxes 8^(
Anyway, my for my last few Strats I had worked out a wiring scheme that gave me series/parallel & in/out phase combinations of the neck/middle & bridge/middle pickups. Since I found all of the resulting sounds useful in various situations, I decided to use a similar approach with the Swede (which is a Les Paul type instrument, btw).
Basically, but using a 4P3T toggle switch in place of the original pickup selector, in combination with two push/pull pots, I can achieve the desired result. The schematic is at:
http://www.exotic-scales.com/les_paul_wiring.htm, for anyone interested.
In addition, I'm going to use two mini DP3T toggles to give me series/parallel & coil tap for the individual coils of each humbucker.
Finally, since the circuit really wouldn't support multiple volume and tone controls, I figured I'd fill in the remaining two holes (where the original tone controls were) with a Varitone type circuit with adjustable notch-depth control and inductor tapping (from Craig Anderton's "Electronic
Projects for Musicians"

. If my calculations are correct, this setup will give me a whopping 648 distinct sounds. Yeah, I know it's probably overkill, but hey, if even a TENTH of them are useful, that's pretty damned good.
So, here's the big question: Does anyone know where I can get a 4-pole
3-position toggle switch with 16 terminals? I know I can get a 4P3T with 12 terminals (that is, one in which the center position connects the two inputs in parallel, but that won't work for this application (as you can see by the schematic). If necessary, I can just use a common 4-pole 3-position ROTARY switch, but I'd much prefer to use a toggle, which will retain the original look and operation.
