What exactly are jumbo frets and how do they differ from other sizes? I'm female so I have tiny hands and fingers. Can anyone tell me what would be the advantages/disadvantages of jumbo frets?

thanks

I thought i couldnt live without them, but now I have this MIJ strat, im guessing vintage frets (or medium jumbo) and I find I can live without them.
It is only by doing things others have not that one can advance.

Jumbo frets are there so that you can bend the strings with much less effort.

Although it does make it easier to bend string, I personally dislike big frets. I have girly yet long fingers, and I find that normal frets work much better than big ones.

Main reason I didnt like jumbo frets(on my Ibanez) is that I had hard time moving my fingers from one fret to another very quickly. Sliding from one fret to next was just a torture.

When I finally went back to normal strat with normal teeny frets, it worked so much better for me. I could slide with so much ease.

It's really different between different people, as I observed. Some people
LOVES big frets, some people don't(like me).
My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.

Personally I don't like jumbo frets.
Mostly because I have been playing guitars with normal frets for years.
But most of the newer guitars have them.
There is not much getting away from them.
As far as hand size I don't think they would cause any problems.
For me they seem like mountains when I slide from one chord to another.
Plus because you have to push the string down farther they knock the intonation off.
Classical music gradually lost popularity because it is too complicated: you need twenty-five or thirty skilled musicians just to hum it properly. So people began to develop regular music.

Ok zzmann420

well one thing with about them is that your not supposed to to press the string all the way down.

your supposed to have a light touch, which means faster playing( less friction)

so if you know how to play them they will help you out alot and you wont change the intonation at all
