I saw a movie recently that had Jeff Healey (of the Jeff Healey band) playing guitar, as usual, facing upwards on his lap. It looked like a strat and had 3 red pickups. Does anyone know what these pickups are, or have any other info on equipment used? I thought they might be Rio Grande Halfbreed or Muy Grande since they do make sparkly red coloured strat pickups and those seem likely candidates.

company named Evans - they were single-coil sized humbuckers which are placed inside those covers and potted in epoxy. They also had the neat feature of having a plug on the end of them, you attached a socket to the wire in the guitar`s electronics and then plug them in. I`ve played with guitars with Evans - quite a clean, powerful output and NO HUM. The company has been out of business for awhile. playing a customized black Squier outfitted with three Seymour Duncan full-sized humbuckers. And he was amazing as always. Though these days he now concentrates more on jazz, he just put out a trad jazz album called _With Friends_ on an independant label, on which he plays trumpet and sings. That and running the club (he does play matinees on Saturday with his jazz band) and running his management company (he`s manages singer Amanda Marshall). I tried to hand it back, but said I could have it). It`s a huge triangular medium.
Everyone is a moon and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.

80s?) heyday when he was the `next big thing` and doing the wailing blues rock lead stuff. He came through here a bunch of times over a 2 or 3 year period, headlining at clubs and small halls. He always played a Les Paul as his main guitar.
I later saw him in the mid-90s as an opening act at a big show (can`t remember the headliner now) and it was still the Paul. I`m sure he sounds great on a Strat.
Jeff Healy is an amazing musician.

I opened for Jeff and his band at the Subway Pub (University of Windsor,Ontario, Canada) at around the time that movie came out...musta been about 1988-89...he was a class act (and his rider was only half the size as David Wilcox`s)...sure glad I went before him...but his FOH engineer was the best! ;-P
Cheers, CS

(equipment) show at the Exhibition grounds in Toronto (early eighties I think). I was there with the guys from the band I was in at the time - just checkin` things out - just walkin` around. Then a gridlock kinda thing started in one of the isles. We worked our way to the front of the crowd - and there was this blond-haired kid sitting down with a custom-made guitar face up in his lap - in front of the "Twelfth Fret" booth - just freakin` wailin`. Jimi Hendrix, SRV kinda tone to his playing. The crowd was going nuts. When he was done, someone from the Twelfth Fret picked up their guitar. Then a relative or a friend led him away. It wasn`t `till then that I realized he was blind. I turned to my friend/keyboard player Steve O`Connor - we couldn`t wipe the smiles off our faces. We knew we`d just seen a star (before he was a star). I`ll never forget that.
History is merely a list of surprises. It can only prepare us to be surprised yet again.
