Is it impossible to start learning guitar with rock songs? I started a couple of months ago, and told the teacher what kind of music was of interest to me, and all I have had so far is a lot of twinkle twinkle little star... Am I right thinking this is wrong?

Yes it is, I started with Take It Easy by the Eagles, but I'm self taught. I would most certainly think that your instructor would follow your wishes as to what you want to learn and teach you the necessary steps to get there, but that's just me.

I started with a chord chart and the chords for the song. After I learned the chords, the words, and the strum pattern I moved on to the guitar tabs for the solo's - but not the solo's for all the songs I have learned, just a select group of songs, as I'm rhythm guitarist.
