I am new at this, and want to get an amp to use only at home. I was thinking that a 5 watt amp should do, but I am not sure if I need to get one with one or two volume controls.
Suggestions?

Hi Guest, There are lots of decent 15w amps on the market these days, try and get one that has a "Headphone " socket as that way at night or when you dont want to make a noise, you put the headphones on and you can hear the amplified sound, whilst the string is only audible at the unamplified lever. My advice I always give is take your own guitar along to the dealer and ask to play through several amps until you find one suitable to your liking..By the way many headphone sockets are located on the rear panel.(not all)

Good hunting

Hi Out There:
I have two amps one is a Fender Princeton Reverb which is quite expensive and a Kustom Tube 12A Amp which I carry around on out of state contracts. The Kustom is 12 Watt with a single instrument impit and a headphone imput as well. I got the Kustom because I needed it for travel and only cost me about $125.00 TTL. This little amp is good for the purpose and sound very good for it's size and would recommend it to you if you are looking solely for a good little practice amp for home use. Got mine at Guitar Center - check it out....
