Here's the question: bying a cheap electric with pale appearance and give it more character with tinting - how to do it? With Brown shoe polish? What's the technic: how to work with the shoe polish? Will the appearance stay or bleed or worn off?

if its a cheap guitar it wont be lacquer, it will be a catalized finish that is almost impossible to modify (as in strip or stain). I heard you can use
"aircraft remover" if you let the thing soak in for like 30 minutes...

There is a great stripper made by the ZAR company that will dissolve a catalyzed finish as well as a polyester and Urethane.
Available in some smaller hardware stores
