I was reminiscing yesterday, and remembered how things have changed, when playing back in the 50/60's money was in short supply (Come to think of it nothing has changed ha ha) However, changing strings was left as long as it possibly could be. In the interim we would remove our strings and boil them in a pot to rid them of impurities in the wire wound, this was especially true with costly bass strings. Hard to believe, hey.?

There was always improvement as all the impurities had been boiled out in the water, It would just buy a little more time before you "Had" to change them. although unconnected in any way we did a similar thing to our motorcycle chains we would have an old pot with oil and a blob of graphite in and boil ou chains to make them like new again.
