I volunteer in a big brother program, and my little brother wants to learn guitar (he is 12) I have referred him to a friend, but can decide what guitar to recommend he gets, electric or acoustic...does it matter, or should I let him figure it out himself like I did?

I think you should let him figure it out himself. That's the best IMHO.

What type of guitar and strings do you recommend for a 6 1/2 year old boy. Do you recommend piano lessons before guitar lessons?

Hi Carol, I agree with Slash, best let him choose, As the guitar is the most popular among children he will probably opt for that...If so its best at first to get him a child sized guitar as full size will be to much...many suppliers carry them and here is just one site to give you an idea of what's available
