hi. yeah i dont have a p bass, but an active jazz bass, but i am really trying to get a metal bass sound. i have a behringer bass v amp, if you have any hints with that but specifically i am thinking string height. i can raise the strings pretty high up so i can play fingerstyle heavily ala geezer butler or geddy lee which i like but i am looking for a cleaner pick oriented attack for faster passages doubling the guitar riffs. if you have any idea let me know. string guage, picks, everything. i need help. (i am primarily a guitar player doing four track stuff)

Tune in Drop D Transposed. C G C F

One of two pedals, Digitech's Bass Overdrive or Digitech's Hot Rod Rock
Disortion (It is a guitar pedal but gives a great fuzz sound if you set the settings right)

Heavy Metal Bass?
Play really REALLY hard, boost the lows and highs (but not as much as the lows) and maybe just a *touch* of overdrive.

And don't be afraid of fret noise on the attack. Really drive those strings. Use some compression, and the fret noise is part of the sound. (it took me a while to get used to that)

Just channel your anger.... that's what that style is about isn't it?
