You hit the nail on the head. Many players over the years have tried to duplicate others by using exactly the same equipment, and usually fail, while at the same time the players they are trying to emulate can pick up anything and still have their unique sound.
It's the player, not the equipment. Don't believe me? Hand any great blues player an acoustic. I don't think Robert Johnson ever played an electric, and he sounds pretty damn bluesy to me.

Classic scammer no doubt. But I've read at least two diffrerent sources that have him saying at length what he likes about his guitars, (he's used Gibsons almost exclusively since he could first afford one), but it doesn't matter to him what amp is available as long as it works.
Hard to know what to believe sometimes, especially since Berry re-writes history as often as Paul McCartney does.

Same as Chuck Berry, who I made reference to in this light a few weeks back. ANY amp the venue had was fine with him - and he always sounded like "Chuck Berry" through it.

Read these reviews and see what other people have done with the
Electar amp.

Overdrive and smooth distortion, fat strings, a strat or a tele or a paula or an electric spanish, maybe tubes... all these may -and do- help.
But what really matters? You may have top dollar equipment. You may be able to play a gazillion notes and complex schemes. But what matters is what you've got to tell... remember Crossroads? The young man understands the blues when the girl leaves him... blues means pain and pain is only learnt the hard way...

This has been discussed a lot at V-Amp yahoo list, and certainly a self- amplified speaker like the ones Behringer manufactures is considered an ideal solution. I have tried plugging into the effects loop and the sound was very good. At home I plug it into the input of my 15W SS amp, and I have to tell you that thing is really good into turning a lifeless and toneless "practice" amp into an excellent home audio unit. The difference is day and night.
Yes, I know a proper tube amp is certainly better, and the small speakers practice amps come with are not very enjoyable, but the difference of a practice amp with and without an amp modeller is *huge*.
