The E2 series plus 5 additional numbers are from that production line

That is true Slash, but that same sequence also was used for guitars made in Japan in '82 as well as USA. Also there was a series of US made guitars called Fullerton models in that time frame which can actually be worth quite a little bit, several thousand in fact. I have an email into Fender already, should get an answer tomorrow.

Well, unfortunately, the Fender factory only has serial number data back to 1993. They did tell me however to contact elderly.com as they are experts in the valuation of older Fender guitars and other vintage equipment. I would suggest contacting them and they will probably be able to help.

I see. To say the truth that is rather strange, being that they must know so many people are trying to find the origins of their Fender strats beyond 1993 (they could at least make the effort).
