I've got an early 70's silverface quad reverb. With the main volume on 6:
The normal channel is completely clean up to pre-amp 10. But the vibrato channel starts distorting ( in an ugly manner ) on pre-amp 4.5 / 5.
I've read that these amps are suppossed to stay clean all the way up.
Has anybody got any clue what could be wrong with the vibrato channel? Could
I try replacing some specific part?

It often happens that the real tragedies of life occur in such an inartistic manner that they hurt us by their crude violence, their absolute incoherence, their absurd want of meaning, their entire lack of style.

I've asked a friend who is in the tube-hifi amps business to check the channel out.
Has anybody got any tips on what kind of things to look for?

I did try switching the pre-amp tubes. Same result.
So it's something in the channel.... Difficult to say what it is.
