the tip needs to be positive, any effects 9V adaptor with that 1/8" plug will work ok. Dont use a generic radio shack adaptor unless you like a lot of 60Hz

Like the others said, get rid of the effects stuff.
Then don't turn up too much gain (keep it crunchy) or the amp will compress the sound too much.
