Just a word of caution ... recently I let someone use my guitar at an open mic. He was doing some original material and needed to tune the guitar down. In short, the lower strings did not have enough winding to stay in tune. Since I'm fairly new at all this, I haven't quite mastered the art of string changes and getting the proper amounts of wraps.

if you mean "chromatic step" then yes. if "whole-step" then two fretsworth.
E down to D is a whole-step (two frets)

Hi Angharad

A tip for string length is as follows....Take each string two tuning pegs above where its going and snip off. There are lots of theories as to whats right, I like the method stated here, on the other hand BB King's stringa are like wire rope and he winds on all of the string and he seems to do o.k.

Also overlooked all to often is pre stretching strings. I don't want to teach egg sucking so if anyone wants to know any details please let me know.
