I`m about to change the tubes on my Mesa Boogie DC5. I`ve bought a new set from Mesa Boogie, but I`m not sure on how to proceed. I guess I could just unplug the old ones and put in the new, but googling around, there seems to be more involved like adjusting the bias. Then again, I`ve seen someone mentioning that Boogie amps would have a fixed bias (*alert:* newbie talk, I don`t have a clue on what bias actually is).
How would I go about this? Anyone with a step-by-step guide? (I`ve seen the FAQ, but it doesn`t go into detail on this one)
Anyway, thanks for any replies,

Just one more question: the 12AX7 tubes come with a rubber band wrapped around them (covering about half of the tube length), it seems to be very tight. Should I just leave that band, or is it intended to be removed before use of the tube? I can imagine that this band influences the temperature of the tube...
Thanks for the hints, Wald

to prevent problems with microphonics that high gain amps often experience. I imagine that you should leave that. Some people wrap a 1/2" wide strip of duct tape around the 12ax7 tube that goes in their amp`s first preamp slot to do basically the same thing. It deadens the glass so that it won`t ring.
