Hi
I was wondering if I wanted to modify the shape of my guitar, could I take of the finish, and then cut out pieces adding others in stead to make a really wacky shape? (It would work a bit like a jigsaw puzzle) Would it hold together with carpenters glue?

Hi Jay, IMHO alterations are never a good idea. If you are looking for some specific shape you are better starting from scratch.

A company in the states that you can get the parts from is http://www.stewmac.com/?gclid=CJG__quRhZwCFQ6jagodzDAm- g

Hide glue is used for guitar, the above will certainly stock it.

Al the best with the project.

There's 2 things that might make your idea a bad one: If, A) Your guitar, as is, has enough "value" to make modding an idiotic notion or Your guitar is your ONLY guitar, then you might not want to muck with it.

Otherwise, you should have at it and have fun rather than asking permission from those who have already done it.

Remember if you want to change the shape of a guitar body, you must account for all of the routed cavities holding the electronics. The cardinal rule here should be "leave the cavities alone" and carve into or cut away anything else you want. That being said, I completely ignored the above concept/advice on my first mod by intentionally cutting through the top to expose the wiring cavity which had been routed from the back. It made a LOT more work for me, but anyone with a steady hand and the ability to think outside the box can mod a guitar almost any way you can imagine.
