I never use my tone knob on my MIM strat for the mid PU and always find myself needing it on the bridge PU instead. As i'm installing some new pups (which come with new volume and tone pots so i'll be switching them out anyway) i decided to take this chance to do the mod. Ive heard its what comes standard on the Eric Johnson strat. Now i just need to know which wires need to be moved and where to. Here is the wiring diagram for my currently stock strat:

Thanks to all.

am i correct in assuming that i just need to move the white wire connecting the tone pot to the 5 way switch over to the blank slot next to it (on the 5 way switch)?

If you are looking at the switch from the brass side (Tone and Vol away from you) you will see a open lug with no wire connected to it. Just un solder the wire to the right(wire should be going to the bottom tone control) and move it to the open lug, if you want to control both, just solder a jumper from the open lug to the lug to the right (wire should be going to the bottom tone control) this is how I have mine wired.

The best mod in my opinion is to change the wire to the empty spot, the one that goes to the lower tone pot. This is the way many famous players do it like Eric Johnson and Walter Trout. It leaves the middle wide open and thats far better than de bridge without tone control.Another option if you don't want to solder is just swap the rear and mid pickup!!then you have on pos 4 the neck and bridge and thats a killer sound like a telle!!

It is very easy and not too difficult to change the wire on the five selector switch, the one that comes from the lower tone control just needs to be moved to the empty spot next to it, when you unsolder remember that the wire is bend and needs to be pushed and then pulled to take it out of the hole on the switch! Do this when de solder is flued and warmed up. Do not overheat it it's just a matter of secconds and then you go. Heat up the emty spot and put some solder on it and then hook in the wire and resolder. thats it.
If you do not want to solder it is very easy to change the middle and rear pickup, this wil give you tone on the rear and as a bonus on pos.4 the neck and bridge for a tele sound!! The switch is not working as simple as before but who cares for the bennefit of TONE!!
