Have any of you got a clue to how to decipher the serial numbers on Boss pedals?
Here`s a quote from "The Boss Book": "Serial numbers are a trade secret. There`s an order to them, and we can tell what units were manufactured in what month and what year. Some true fanatics have already broken the code, but the rest of us will remain in the dark."

The 1st number is usually the year, at least on the older ones. i.e. 489676 is 1984 or 1994

It couldn`t be 1994 as they had changed to the new system with two letters and 5 numbers by then. It could vey well be true for the older Made in Japan pedals.
Anyone got any information on the newer numbering system?

You know, I was wondering about that too, as I was writing down all my gear serials for insurance purposes. On the newer ones that doesn`t hold. The first two alphabet letters and following five numbers gets pretty wacky. I hope now that you told us that,you won`t have to kill us...
