I saw a Boss HC-2 Hand Clapper in a local pawn shop. I looks like an 80s Boss pedal. I can't figure out what it does and pawn shops won't let you play with anything. I did an ebay and web search and came up empty handed.
Also it is priced at 89 dollars. Is that a fair price?

Science is facts; just as houses are made of stones, so is science made of facts; but a pile of stones is not a house and a collection of facts is not necessarily science.

From what I remember, it's a pad type of thing you hit with a drumstick????? It's not a guitar pedal I don't think.
As for the price - what ever you're willing to pay. It's obviously rare and uncommon. I'd talk them down, but, sounds fair to me.
However - I think it's before 16 bit drum sounds, so it's probably a 12 bit hand clap - which will sound pretty bad...

If you go flying back through time, and you see somebody else flying forward into the future, it's probably best to avoid eye contact.

The BOSS Handclapper is not an effect pedal, per se. Its sole purpose in life is to produce a fake handclap sound. It does so when you hit that blue rubber pad with a stick, or with your hand, whichever is handier. The circuit inside is IDENTICAL (save for the addition of a couple of external pots to adjust some sound parameters that are permanently set in the 808) to the handclap circuit in the legendary Roland TR-808 drum machine. That can be good or bad, depending on your particular taste.
I guess it could be useful for a guitarist who is having a hard time finding an audience, yet still craves the sound of people clapping.

I've got one of those pedals.
I brought it to a gig and was tapping my foot on it to give handclaps on 2 & 4.
Everyone in the band started screaming at me and the pedal is now sitting in my "pedal museum" (which is also known as my front hall closet).
