I'm leaning toward a Boss RV3 but am also considering a Holy Grail.

I have a Marshall amp that has reverb but it's not all that great. I'm looking to sell my current digital delay pedal and perhaps kill two birds with one stone with the RV-3. I like the effect of ambient reverb but with some delay with repeats/decay in it, especially for soloing. Think of Pink
Floyd's 'Another Brick In The Wall Part 1' or even some of the early Chris
Isaak stuff. I would like to believe that the Holy Grail would solve my issue because I hear it sounds better, but it's just not a delay pedal. The adapter situation really isn't an issue either as I have a pedal board, too (but at 500mA I can see why it doesn't operate off a battery!). I'm probably going to have to buy the RV-3 (since I can't test it) and see if I like it or not... Let me know if there is anything that you can think of that might persuade my decision.

I tried them both and bought the Holy Grail. I think it sounds more natural than the Boss. The boss had a little more of a metalic quality to it to my ears. But they both are nice, so you try them for yourself.

The Boss does have one advantage though - power requirements for the Holy
Grail are an issue. It doesn't take batteries. But since all my stuff is on a pedalboard, it doesn't bother me.

I like the sound of ambient reverb with slight repeats/decay of delay. Just wondering if there are options out there to ge this besides the RV3. Maybe this helps define a little more what I'm looking for.

Perhaps the Deluxe Memory Man would solve many issues and would be better than the RV-3. Thoughts?

Personally I've heard that the RV-2 is by far the best of the Boss reverbs.
Holy Grail is popular though.
I would not join any club that would have someone like me for a member.

I felt the RVG was a bit harsh and all of the settings had more of a "plate" reverb sound than a spring.

On the other hand, the Holy Grail has two very different settings that I feel are both warm and natural. On the downside, the HG is a bit noisier.

My suggestion... if you're the type who has the patience and interest to model your reverb, the RVG may be the way to go. If you want great reverb out of the box, go with the grail. They're both great products.

Try a tc Electronics Nova its got 5 different reverb including plate, hall, spring, room and you can preset. You can also get a echo if you use the pre-decay and post decay properly. For short delay I like the MXR Carbon Copy. I also use a deluxe Memory Man and the real Holy Grail, a fulltone tube tape echo. Overkill you say? Try a short delay into a longer delay and you might be very surprised. Hope this helps!

I wrote about the T C Electronics Reverb. Its got 5 different reverbs plus you can get that delay echo you want with pre-decay and post-decay knobs set correctly.
