hi, any tips on this? Looking for suggestions for optimum setting for dynamic range as well as tone- the best starting point for pup height adjustment.
aka: Finding the "sweet spot" -~ on each of the 3 pickups.

Right now my pickups are seated pretty low. And it sounds pretty cool.
But I'd like to experiment with the heights to see if there's anything
I'm missing/etc., and if my current setup can be improved upon.

I've read on the Les Paul Forum http://makeashorterlink.com/?F2EF62777 that one way is to "play an open low E or A string and adjust the pickup height up or down as the note is ringing. You will be able to hear the pickup tone change as you adjust. Then repeat this on the high E or B string. Do this for both pickups. You should detect that "sweet spot" tone when you hear it."

Is this best achieved with distortion/overdrive setting or on clean tone?
What different methods do people on here use?
