I'm sure there are varying opinions, but I am looking to pick up something in this range.

I've had a Marshall Valvestate 4watt combo w 1x12 for about 8 years and I love it. It's great for a variety of different situations. I used to use it as my main amp for a few years but now I mainly use it for rehearsals and smaller gigs these days. Great amp.

I bought a DSL 401 a few months ago and had mixed feelings about it until...
I plugged it into a 4x12 1960 AX cabinet. Now it's a Marshall.

Probably a JCM 800 4010 or4210 or(2554 the best)..They are going up in price as I write..Built like a tank and sound great too...I have a JTM 60 which sounds, not bad either...You can get them pretty cheap too,,,Not the same but still good..I hope that helps..
