Hey everybody, I've heard about American made Squiers made in the late 80's but never seen or played one and never fro what I'd consider a reliable source. Anybody have any info on these? i couldn't find anything at the
Fender website or Mr. Gearhead. Thinking of bidding on one I saw on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1& amp;category=38082&item=25470

What I found out was in the early 90s in Mexico where Squiers were made for
1 or 2 years along with Mexican models there was a fire so production of all
Fenders was briefly moved to the US. I remember having a Mexican Squier from around 93. The guitar was basically a Mex. Fender. I'm wondering if these were the same thing

Well actually there were USA Squiers . Apparently what happened is that
Fender USA parts were shipped to Japan to bridge a shortfall in production as they were having quality issues at the time.
I have seen one of these USA/Jap Squiers and its a bloody gem , he wont sell it too me though .
They do exist therefore , but no idea on the quantity.

There is, a friend of mine has one.. don't know the exact year but it is 80's.. blonde colour, built in Japan. Made from Fender USA parts.

Worth a fair bit nowadays (about as much as a new USA strat)

Hi Ian, there's 2 on ebay right now but I suspect one may be a fake. Do you know when they were made

Hey guys.......I have the made in usa strat squier you are talking about. I am waiting for my credit card to come in the mail , so I can sell on Ebay. The strat is the main thing that made me decide to open an Ebay acct. I am a construction worker and I am off work for the winter. I am in a jam with $$$$$. Otherwise I would never sell it.
Just like you said , I've never seen another one in all my years of playing guitar. I will sell it to a private party (off ebay) , for around 400.00 . It is an 89' I will take money orders

hey everyone, realize I'm commenting way late on this but I used to own an american made squire strat. I traded for it at a guitar show in Elgin, IL and sold it to a teenager in Anchorage, AK. It was from 88 or 89. It was a pretty good guitar but I'm pretty sure the body was basswood and the PU's were definitely inferior to the usa strats. But there are a few out there, I know, I owned one.
