On my electric strat model I find it very hard to play the A-shape barre chord .
When i use fingers 2,3 and 4, I mute with finger 4 the sixth string. and finger two does hardly fit ( no space)
When i use finger 3 to barre 3 frets then or the 5th string sounds dead or i kill the sixth.

What fingering do you all over there use?
And how many hours weeks willi t cost to master it.

With the F shape ba i do nothave problems.
Peace and justice are two sides of the same coin.

I just use my index finger and my pinky... The trick, and it will eventually come naturally, is to let the pinky flex back just a little at the knuckle. This allows you to fret the proper strings without touching the high e. Hope this helps...

This is how I learnt to do A shape barre with fingers 2,3,4. For a while I just practiced using fingers 2,3,4 (no barre) to get a clean sound with each of those strings. It also allowed me to find the right fingering when needed easily. When I was comfortable with that I started adding finger 1. To do this you don't need to press hard, let your finger tip touch string 5 and the second knuckle string one (the finger is sort of on its outer side.)
This finger will be diagonal across the fret. Also I find with this barre my thumb is behind fingers 234 and not finger 1 (as this doesn't need to press hard at all.) A final thing I found out is that finger 2 is the most important, just make sure that string rings and 3,4 will generally fall in to place to (you will also note that the wrist tilts towards the headstock to get this barre nicely.)

Not sure if that will be much help, but it's how I've managed to pull it off cleanly now - it's taken 2-3 weeks of daily practice (15-30 mins a day)
to start becoming proficient with it. For practice i'll generally do some progressions such as C (A barre) Dm (open) G (E barre) B (A barre.) This just gets the hand used to moving between the most common barre shapes and open. Also before someone else says this, take it very slowly
Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good.
