Hi all - doing some modifications on my Peavey 210TX cab (actually was a
Combo210TX, but I've separated the cab from the amp) and noticed 18 gauge wiring throughout. Someone had suggested replacing it with 12 gauge to improve the sound.

My question is - given there is MAYBE a couple feet of wiring in the cab, will a heavier gauge wire make any noticeable difference? I could see it perhaps affecting performance of long length cables, but internal speaker wires of such short length?

A 2-ft length of AWG 18 wire has a resistance of 0.013 ohms. I can't imagine any audible effect this would have.

I agree with the rest, you're not going to hear any difference, but it's good practice to have thicker wires in the cabinet. If I was building a cab, I'd use thicker wires, or if I was stripping everything out for some reason, I'd probably reassemble it with thicker wires - but I wouldn't bother taking it to pieces just to do so.

You won't notice the difference over small runs at low power. You cetrainly won't be able to remember that it sounded like before acurately to be able to compare.
Now if you're going to cook the cab with a kilowatt or something you might have the last couple of feet of wire heat up a little...
If you just want to use thicker wire there's no harm in replacing it though..
